U.S. Senator John McCain (R-AZ) released the following statement today on the announcement by the U.S. Department of Transportation that Arizona will be awarded $54 million to support infrastructure improvements along Interstate 10 (I-10) between Phoenix and Tucson:

"I applaud the announcement today that the Arizona Department of Transportation has been awarded $54 million to make much needed improvements along I-10 between Phoenix and Tucson. I-10 is a key route connecting major population centers in the state, and it plays an important role in Arizona's economy thanks in part to the large volume of freight traffic along the corridor. These funds make up a significant part of the overall $157 million project, which will improve safety and efficiency for the approximately 120,000 vehicles that travel this road every day. I was proud to support the FAST Act, signed into law last year, because it supported regionally significant freight and highway projects like this one, in addition to recognizing long-term Arizona transportation priorities, such as the Sonoran Corridor and the future I-11."
